HistoryQuest 8th Grade

Today was my first ever attempt at an 8th grade version of MysteryQuest – HistoryQuest8: 1754-1898. An 8th grade historyquest has been on my “wish list” for a few years now.
Timing
We made it an hour and thirty minutes to try to meet middle school schedules better. An hour would be even better for that goal. [...]

Unique MysteryQuest Clues

Still doing MysteryQuest USA sessions. For today’s sharing, I thought you might be interested in some of the really creative and unique clues.

“Peaceful is a synonym for this time zone”
A morse code clue: -..  ..-  -  -.-.  …

And some more math problems:

What unique clues have you seen students give in a program like this?

MysteryQuest USA Visuals

It’s MysteryQuest season again, and I can sure tell that the classes have benefited from additional instructions on making good posters.
These posters are from Nate Moyer’s class from one of Oswego BOCES school’s in NY. Look how easy to read they are! Students read the clues from the back of the poster.

Awesome MysteryQuest Rubric

At Elevate 2008 I met Tracy Poelzer from British Columbia. She has done MysteryQuest this fall within their district, and she’s developed a rubric for MysteryQuest! Check it out here on Rubistar.
If you’re doing a MysteryQuest spin-off, you may want to link to it. Be courteous and give her credit!

Pausing for Posters

I’ve been seeing a lot of posters in the last several MysteryQuest USA session. They are still really hard to do well. In today’s afternoon session, Washington Elem, California did an excellent job. I think it was their first time too.
The students had very clear posters with big writing and just the short bit of [...]

Snippets from MysteryQuest USA

I’ve been running a bunch of MysteryQuest USA sessions in the last couple weeks, and more coming. Here are a few snippets from what’s been happening so far.
Intros
After the introductions in the session today, the first class was unmuted for a bit before they started their presentation. I heard a student ask, “Are we going [...]
